Thats earth... a pale blue dot... seen from 6.4billion km away. The photo was taken on Valentines day of 1990, by the Voyager 1 spacecraft.
Carl Sagan described the earth as "... a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam."
"Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot.
In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.
To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known."
(Carl Sagan in The Pale Blue Dot)
Indeed we need to remember we ARE small, nothing we do on earth means anything if we see life in this scale!
"I don't know about you, when I first saw it, a shrinking feeling came over me, and I knew in that moment that my life is a tiny little blip on the radar of history, a vapour infinitesimal little life." (Louie Giglio from Indescribable)
However, we must not underestimate our value. For God, who created the universe, who named every star there is in the cosmos, who also created this tiny pale blue dot, as a home for you and I, emptied Himself and came to us to redeem us.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16)
